For years, each and every time that I heard a friend, family member, or acquaintance talk about making money online, I would politely smile and hope that they weren't as delusional as they sounded. Being a business major and long time entrepreneur, it wasn't that I didn't believe that one could make money online, but a simple knowing that the path to legitimate success was often littered with scams, false hopes, and a whole lot of hoops to jump through. Even as business savvy as I was, I had found very little reason to believe that the average person could do little more than make small amounts of extra spending money from internet sources.
Despite my apprehensions and that voice of reason in my head, though, I decided to attempt what I thought was impossible... to make money online. A close friend of mine had developed a business plan and it seemed very reasonable, even to my college educated brain. I was asked to join with my friend because of my experience in finances and small business management, and the investment to get started was very minimal. So, with a hope and a prayer, we began.
The business revolved around the resale of textbooks. Living in a large city that boasted six major universities and a handful of community colleges, we found it quite easy to purchase used textbooks at a reasonable price. Many people even offered them as a donation, while others simply took whatever money we offered them. After several weeks of collecting books to resale, we launched both an eBay and Amazon store, selling many of our books in the very first week.
While not every book brought huge profits, we never seemed to lose money on a sale. After just six short months, we were both celebrating success... along with a nice bonus check! While we have since ventured into other products and areas of online business, this was the turning point for me. It was because of this adventure that I have found multiple income sources from the internet... from blogging and freelance writing, to affiliate programs and online marketplaces.
Now, when I am asked about making a jump into an online business, I gladly can tell people that it is possible. While I am not a millionaire, by any means, I have been able to stay at home with my child for over 5 years, replacing my corporate income with money made online. So, if you are like me, and are wanting to become your own boss and work from home, making money through the internet, I recommend that you start where I did... selling on eBay and Amazon.
And, if you are not sure how to begin, one of my favorite free resources for training seminars, coaching sessions, and newsletters filled with great information can be found here. So, take it from someone who was a huge skeptic proved wrong... having a successful business online is not impossible... far from it... in fact, it usually only takes a little bit of training a small step of faith!
